BisonFunder FAQs
How are projects successful on the site?
Planning. Successful projects are ones that integrate our best practice recommendations in outreach, design, adhere to a 30-day social media and marketing calendar, and build a strong crowdfunding team of 10+ people to contribute to their crowdfunding efforts.
Most importantly, every member of the team must be 100% committed to actively engaging their social communities and networks.
Who can utilize the BisonFunder platform?
Currently, official alumni and student organizations, as well as full-time faculty can utilize BisonFunder to crowdfund for their important projects.
How do I add a fundraising project to the BisonFunder?
All alumni are welcome and encouraged to request having fundraising projects added to BisonFunder. The platform is available a maximum of 30-days per project. Please send your proposed fundraising project to giving@howard.edu with at least a 2-week lead time.
Please provide the following information to get started:
- Name of fundraiser
- Goal amount
- Purpose (including who to contact for additional info or questions & social media handles to follow)
- Logo/Pictures (limited to 5) attached
- R account to deposit funds
- YouTube link, if available
- Thank message from host.
Who sets the campaign timeline and goals?
You! While projects must align to Howard University BisonFunder's launch calendar openings, much of how the projects are constructed, including the length of days of the campaign and their crowdfunding goals, is determined by the project managers after consulting with HU Development staff.
Typically, the length of the campaigns are 30 days and have an average fundraising goal between $5,000 - $10,000. The final goal amount should be determined based on the strength of the project team's networks and partnerships.
What happens if the project doesn't reach its goal?
If the project does not reach its targeted fundraising goal (as sometimes occurs), the project manager is able to keep the amount raised, but the university must use it based upon the initial intent of the project.
The project manager must explain to the donors how the money raised will be used if this occurs.
How do I make a contribution?
A contribution can be made by simply pressing one of the red buttons with a designated dollar amount.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. You will receive an email receipt for your donation to Howard University thru BisonFunder. If you select a contribution level that has a thank-you gift, the cash value (FMV) of the gift will be deducted from the total amount of the contribution.
When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged immediately.
